Dr Thariq Bagus

Dr Thariq Bagus is a friendly, caring and astute ophthalmologist who expresses his commitment to people through the principles of Batho Pele. His love for Community Ophthalmology drives him to provide affordable, high quality and sustainable eye-care services to the greater public. He has worked closely with NGO’s such as the Bureau for the Prevention of Blindness to provide high-volume cataract surgery to under-serviced communities and he is a consultant surgeon for the Keratoconus Foundation where he provides a cornea transplant service for people in need. He also heads the Envision Cares Program which provides a high quality private eye-care service for the community.
Dr Bagus completed both his medical degree and ophthalmology specialist degree at the University of the Witwatersrand. His accomplishments earned him multiple awards from the Wits School of Clinical Medicine and the South African Glaucoma Society and at the end of his training he was awarded the prestigious Elie Dahan Ophthalmology Registrar of the Year Prize.
In 2021 Dr Bagus was admitted into the Refractive Surgery Alliance Fellowship Program under the preceptorship of Dr Lourens Coetzee. The RSA Fellowship is an elite international training program orchestrated by the world leaders in refractive surgery. Dr Bagus takes pride in using his high-end training to provide a world-class service to his community.
